Asset Tracking and Monitoring System

For my Bachelor's Major project I developed a Environment Monitoring System that would fetch the various parameters from the nearby surroundings and then it would transmit them to a dashboard where the parameters can be viewed this system also has inbuilt alarm modules to notify the users .

Description

Asset Tracking & Monitoring (ATM) System is a system of hardware and software that logs information about tangible assets, allowing a business to verify its assets’ location and status.

The purpose of building this system was to track the location and the condition of the fragile and perishable items, to prevent the spoilage of such items a real-time system was developed which would send the live details about the condition of the product this also includes alert modules which would alert the owner in case of any problem by sending out alert in the form of Email and SMS.

Special IOT SIM’s have been used and the transmitting medium has both the option of transmitting through Wifi to another gateway from where it would transmit it to the cloud server or by the GSM module which would directly upload the data to the server where the data would be fetched by a REST API and then transmitted to a MongoDB database and then it can be viewed on a Things Board Open Source dashboard .

The parameters that are monitored by the system and can be viewed by the dashboard are :

    1. Temperature
    2. Atmospheric Pressure
    3. Location
    4. CO2 Levels
    5. Flame Detection
    6. Vibration
    7. Tilt and Orientation

In addition to asset location, an asset monitoring system might also track an asset’s name, type, usage, engine hours, maintenance schedule, or other information, and may send alerts to managers when anything goes amiss.

While the scope of asset tracking is large enough to apply to fixed assets such as warehouses and to smaller assets such as laptops or pagers, this guide takes a deeper look at the most vulnerable class of assets: High value, movable ones that must be monitored remotely. Popular assets in this group include construction and moving equipment, railway vehicles, shipping containers, and even cold chain assets.
